 QuadRacer LTR450 Review

Deep rooted in racing for almost 25 years, the Suzuki Quadracer LTR450 is built on a foundation of competing at the highest level, and winning. The modern day Quadracer comes factory equipped with everything that the average racer will need to not only compete, but win at just about any level.

Engine The four stroke, four valve, liquid cooled, DOHC, 450cc engine on the Suzuki comes to life with the push of a button, (that’s right, no more kick starting). The deceivingly quiet LTR’s low db output is no indication of the power it possesses. The engine itself is engineered with high performance, and low weight in mind. The aluminum cylinder bore is electro-plated with Suzuki's SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material) which radically improves heat transfer, and provides a tighter piston clearance. The cylinder head features a narrow included valve angle, which creates both a compact cylinder head, and compact combustion chamber. In keeping with the weight savings theme, titanium valves, an aluminum piston, magnesium clutch and magneto covers, and magnesium cylinder head are all used to save weight without sacrificing reliability. The final result is an extremely light-weight, innovative engine that delivers great power without sacrificing reliability.

The 42mm Electronic Fuel Injection means uses a multi hole injector, which optimizes atomization, and pretty much eliminates any “bog”, or delay in power delivery. The entire system is controlled by a high performance ECM that utilizes a high spec 16-bit CPU.

Once in motion, the five-speed transmission performs flawlessly, with a smooth transition between gears, and a sensation that the motor will pull strong endlessly despite the lack of noise.

Chassis/ Suspension/ Brakes
The LTR450 rides on one of the most technically advanced chassis on the market. The durable, high-tensile steel frame was designed for optimum rigidity, and unmatched cornering performance. The race stance of the Quadracer is achieved through a lowered ride height, balanced components, and an MX width. Suzuki went with an MX friendly 49” width by using independent double wishbone front suspension, and fully adjustable Kayaba piggyback reservoir style front shocks. The actual engine design, the radiator, and the centrally mounted exhaust system were all engineered in order to achieve a low center of gravity, and equal balance. Regardless, the LTR still boasts 9.4” of ground clearance with the stock 20” x 7” x 10” front, and 18” x 10” x 8” rear tires.

Suspension wise, the Quadracer is prepared for just about any conditions, anything from Motocross, to Trail Riding can be easily handled at just about any speed. Both the front, and rear Kayaba shocks have Kashima coating for reduced friction, and smooth performance. The rear shock is extremely adjustable, everything from rebound, to high and low speed compression, and preload can be tinkered with. The LTR is comfortable just about anywhere you’d want to take it, from MX jumps, to tree roots, and ruts on the trail. The suspension allows the rider to utilize every ounce of the machine’s power to its full potential.

The Quadracer LTR450 doesn’t disappoint when it comes to stopping power. The single hydraulic rear brake caliper is mated to a 190mm rear disc, while the dual hydraulic front disc brakes are mated with 160mm front rotors, and the results are amazing. The LTR can easily outbreak anything in its class.

Ergonomics
Ergonomically, the LTR accommodates riders of all shapes and sizes. The machine’s stance instantly gives you a “racey” feel, and all but encourages you to go fast. All of the controls are where you would expect them, and nothing feels out of place. The trademark “T” shaped seat makes cornering a breeze, and allows you to hang off of the machine without ever losing contact with it. The GSX-R/ Hayabusa inspired lights work great, and you never feel you’ll outrun them while riding at night. The stock serrated foot pegs are just rough enough to keep your feet firmly planted, and provide great grip despite terrain, or weather conditions.

Performing routine maintenance doesn’t require complete disassembly of the machine, and accessing the airbox is as simple releasing the seat. Overall the LTR couldn’t be more comfortable, or easy to work on.

Overall the Suzuki Quadracer LTR450 is a solid package, built on a solid foundation. 24 years of racing history can’t be denied.
